Shichimi Togarashi

This tangy, hot blend adds a special zing to simple dishes. Often called “seven spice”, shichimi togarashi traditionally contains seven ingredients. The tang comes from the orange peel, which is zested and roasted in the Thermomix bowl. Sichuan pepper is a close relation to Japanese sansho pepper and shares its “numbing” properties; we’ve used it here because it is more readily available outside Japan. Shichimi togarashi can be added to traditional Japanese food such as plain rice, seafood or chicken (as we have with our donburi). Feel free to think outside the square and use as a salad seasoning or sprinkle on smashed avocado or grilled fish
